Welcome to SHOWCASE: Object & Idea. We are interested in Objets D'Art and their analysis, their Ideas.

A poem and a prose piece are selected for each monthly issue, and the authors answer questions about the meaning behind their work.

We will also run a quarterly issue focused on a single writer with several pieces from that writer and more analysis, including a recorded interview.

Writers can submit 1x for free to our relaunch issue, or multiple pieces for a fee. After that, minimal reading fees are requested for our monthly. Higher reading fees for the quarterly, and other prizes.

We publish monthly and generally in the 3rd full week of each month via Substack.

Please explore our magazine published at SHOWCASE!

Showcase pays $25 upon acceptance in each category and is sent to over 30,000 followers.

General note on best practices:

Please make sure to submit to the correct category. We won't read poems submitted to prose and vice versa. Please be sure there are no typos in the submission info. Please format your prose properly, with paragraphs, punctuation, and tabs at the beginning of new paragraphs. We receive many submissions and it's helpful to make it easy for us to read. Follow all formatting requests. Polish. We cannot entertain changes to work once submitted. And please read our relaunch note from the new series editor, Bethany Leger.

Thanks and take care.

About Showcase  We’re pleased to announce a literary publication focused on object and idea called Showcase. Showcase drops every Third Tuesday of the month on our Substack and is sent via email to 30,000 readers. We pay $25 per acceptance in poetry and prose.

Guidelines for Showcase  Each month, Showcase will select a poet and prose piece to feature with 1-2 poems, and 1 page of flash prose (inclusive of Fiction and Nonfiction) followed by the writer's about-the-work and a short interview.

We welcome open and friendly dialogue and commentary in the comment section. (Anything hateful, hypercritical, mean spirited, unrelated, and unconstructive will be deleted by monitors).   Selected writers will receive an honorarium of $25, a direct link to the newsletter, and their names will be featured as a part of Showcase’s monthly ad campaign upon publication. We will link from Showcase to a desired page for each writer. We’ll promote each issue on social media and other literary ad networks to help writers gain exposure. We will send out the main issue. Then a reminder. And a 3rd reminder featuring the writer and bio. That's three points of contact with readers.

We welcome new work, as well as published work. We recognize that print magazines and market forces have coalesced on a standard practice of only taking unpublished work and we want to give writers the opportunity for new eyes and ears for all of their work, new and old, published and unpublished. Previously published work must be older than 12 months (12months since their original pub date) and we will also note who first published the piece.

All submissions are read blind. Additionally, we follow CLMP best practices. Statements and interview responses are read, if included, only after an author’s work is accepted. If you decide to include your about-the-work and interview before acceptance, please say what you want to say.

There will be a strict and tight turnaround once pieces are selected. Please be prepared to respond to our emails quickly to meet publication deadlines. If deadlines cannot be met or we don't hear back from selected work, we will move quickly to another writer/piece.

Please send us your edgy, risk-taking, diverse and dynamic work!

Our updated ethos from our new series editor asks for work around cults & high control groups, obtaining independence, breaking free, individuation, leaving high-control relationships and circumstances (a big picture understanding of the ethos -- please read on substack for more details), inclusive of historically marginalized and or submerged voices.  See each category for more submission details.

By submitting to Showcase, you are granting us the right to publish your work online, and keep your work online if it is selected. By submitting, you are opting in to our newsletters and to being contacted by our other literary endeavors. Showcase is an endeavor of C&R Press.

Once we select work, we notify the author via Submittable and the author has three days to accept or decline payment and the publication offer. We pay the honorarium upon publication via PayPal only.

If your work is selected, it will be required that you answer the "Idea" portion of this form (though it is optional to fill out now). We will also require a short Interview be filled out. The Idea and Interview will appear along with the work.

A NOTE ON RE-SUBMISSIONS:  Please take care to dot your i's and cross your t's. Please allow a few months to pass before resubmitting the same creative work. We regret that we are unable to offer feedback on work that is not accepted. We are publishing flash prose to start and may open up to longer work in the future.

FORMATTING:

Poetry Guidelines:  Up to THREE poems, no more than one page each. Single spaced.

Prose Guidelines:  12 font & Times New Roman or similar. 2 pages max. We will not read past page two if more is submitted. Standard 1 inch margins. Proofing your work is essential.  Fiction, Micro Essay, Memoir, Non-Fiction all welcome.
